Background

PyCon US is the largest annual gathering for the Python programming community, organized by the Python Software Foundation (PSF). It serves as a global hub for developers, enthusiasts, and organizations to connect, learn, and share knowledge about Python. In October 2023, we had the privilege of contributing to our third PyCon US, which welcomed nearly 3,000 developers from around the world.

Challenge

The conference chair wanted the event to reflect her love of ice cream and a pastel-themed aesthetic while incorporating elements of Pittsburgh’s iconic landscape. Inspired by the collage-style direction from the event director and conference chair, we embarked on a creative "ice cream challenge" to bring this whimsical vision to life.

Solution

Ukrainian designers Kyrylo Kostrytskyi (UX/UI) and Anastasiia Buhaienko (illustration) collaborated to craft a vibrant design bursting with pastel hues. Puffy clouds and charming snakes—representing Python—playfully slid across a stylized Pittsburgh landscape. The result was far from intimidating; instead, it was a cheerful, inviting aesthetic that attendees adored, adding a delightful splash of color and personality to the conference.
